There’s not much more magical than celebrating the holidays at Walt Disney World. There are plenty of large scale celebrations, like the Epcot International Festival of the Holidays and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, but there are a lot of smaller events too. Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve explored a few of the ways to enjoy the season at the resorts and Disney Springs, but let’s take a look at a few in park experiences you shouldn’t miss.
1. Celebrate Diwali At Animal Kingdom
Guests of Animal Kingdom can now learn about Diwali, India’s Festival of Lights, in the park. The holiday has been incorporated into UP! A Great Bird Adventure. In addition to providing a look at a variety of exotic bird species, the show features facts about Diwali. As a celebration of, “victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance,” the holiday is beautifully suited to Animal Kingdom. The show is located in the land of Asia between the Yak & Yeti Restaurant and the Warung Outpost.
2. The Jingle Cruise
The World Famous Jungle Cruise gets a Christmas makeover during the holiday season. Skippers tailor their jokes to the most wonderful time of the year, gorillas don Santa hats, rhinos destroy fruit cake, and even Trader Sam gets in the spirit. The intrepid capitalist is dressed up as Old Saint Nick. He kindly wants to help Jingle Cruise passengers get a “head” start on their holiday shopping. One of your heads for three of his! Any way slice it or dice it, you come out a head.
3. For the First Time In Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration
If you’ve never seen the Frozen Sing-Along in Hollywood Studios, it is a can’t miss attraction. More than just a simple sing-along, the show features live appearances by Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff, as well as a healthy dose of comedy from the Royal Historians of Arendelle. The show changes for the holiday season, adding in a story line about ringing the Yule Bell. Olaf, who isn’t typically featured in the show, appears and members of the cast sing songs from “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure.”
4. Chip and Dale’s Christmas Tree Spree
Chip and Dale are travelling all around Epcot’s World Showcase. They’re looking for decorations for their Christmas tree, and it’s up to you to figure out where they’ve gone! Similar to Remy’s Ratatouille Hide & Squeak, Chip and Dale’s Christmas Tree Spree is a scavenger hunt. It costs $6.99 to purchase the map, and when you complete it, you can pick up a small holiday themed prize.
5. Illuminations
The Illuminations show will soon leave Epcot forever, but luckily there’s still a little time to enjoy this Walt Disney World classic. During the holiday season, the show adds a special ending, incorporating the song “Let There Be Peace on Earth” into the finale. It’s a beautiful addition to a legendary show.
